About
North Star Club founders Christian and Carolyn Van Outersterp are multi award winning designers, (Christian a former landscape architect and Carolyn trained in Fashion). They’re best known for having revolutionized the contemporary fireplace market, (their iconic Firebowl was exhibited at the V&A) and creating CVO Firevault. This unique restaurant bar in central London gained a cult following and was described by Time Out as “one of London’s 10 best kept secrets”
Six years ago Carolyn and Christian put urban life behind them and started Jollydays Glamping, changing the face of British Glamping forever. This unique, woodland camp put 4 poster beds and roll-top baths into safari style vintage tents, it won a host of accolades and a loyal fan base, as well as spawning a host of imitators.
With Jollydays firmly on the map the Van Outersterps have turned their attention to developing a new venture and the North Star Club is the culmination of their 15 year dream to create the quintessential woodland retreat. The Club is inspired by Christian’s North American heritage and his Canadian grandmother’s tales of the American Great Camps – rustic, wilderness retreats, more akin to woodland hotels, they built for wealthy industrialists in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The couple were keen to recreate the magic of these camps, in a rugged Yorkshire setting and the result is a serene and indulgent escape from the pressures of 21st century life.
Christian and Carolyn escaped urban life 12 years ago and have since become passionate advocates of country life – they live on the edge of the North York Moors with their 4 children, two dozen hens and Binny the Border terrier.
The couple have been profiled in a wide range of press and were featured on the BBCs Dragon Den in 2013.
God’s own country
We’re incredibly proud of this magnificent region – recently voted the third best region in the world to visit! Yorkshire has an incredibly rich culture and heritage, sublime countryside and vibrant cities. Our sporting prowess is unrivalled (12th place in the Olympic medal table – beating Australia!) and our natives are straight forward, warm and welcoming. We have 2 National Parks, a fabulous heritage coastline and wonderful food – London apart, Yorkshire has more Michelin starred restaurants than anywhere else in the UK – so what are you waiting for?
